Michael Porter Jr., who led the Tolton Catholic Trail Blazers to the Missouri Class 3 state championship in March at Mizzou Arena, has announced a verbal commitment to the University of Washington.
The announcement came as little surprise to those in Missouri, as Porter Jr. had a number of factors involving family pulling him toward the Huskies. Â Michael’s brother, 2018 prospect Jontay Porter, committed to Washington last year. Â His father, former Mizzou women’s assistant Michael Porter Sr., took an opening with the Washington staff as an assistant to Huskies Head Coach Lorenzo Romar. Â The family is moving from Columbia to Seattle this summer.
Mizzou, along with Indiana, Oklahoma, and Virginia were finalists for Porter Jr., ranked as high as the Number 2 player nationwide in the Class of 2017. Â He is a 6 foot – 9 inch small forward, and is the highest ever ranked recruit to sign with Washington.
