Michael Porter Jr., who led the Tolton Catholic Trail Blazers to the Missouri Class 3 state championship in March at Mizzou Arena, has announced a verbal commitment to the University of Washington.
The announcement came as little surprise to those in Missouri, as Porter Jr. had a number of factors involving family pulling him toward the Huskies. Michael’s brother, 2018 prospect Jontay Porter, committed to Washington last year. His father, former Mizzou women’s assistant Michael Porter Sr., took an opening with the Washington staff as an assistant to Huskies Head Coach Lorenzo Romar. The family is moving from Columbia to Seattle this summer.
Mizzou, along with Indiana, Oklahoma, and Virginia were finalists for Porter Jr., ranked as high as the Number 2 player nationwide in the Class of 2017. He is a 6 foot – 9 inch small forward, and is the highest ever ranked recruit to sign with Washington.
