By votes of the entire 17-member Trenton Lady Bulldog softball team, the “Golden Glove”, “Silver Slugger, and “Most Valuable Player” Awards were presented at Wednesday night’s team banquet at the Trenton High School Commons.
After a freshman season that saw her tie the school’s single season record for home runs and set a new record (37) for RBI’s in a season, center fielder Maci Moore was named the Silver Slugger winner, going to the Lady Bulldogs top hitter. Â
Junior Mykah Hurley was named the Golden Glove winner, the top fielding award for THS. Hurley came within one run of tying Maddie Hooyman’s record for runs scored in a season.
Junior pitcher Ainsley Tolson was named the Lady Bulldogs Most Valuable Player. With the bat, Tolson broke the school record for doubles in a season with 13 (the previous record was 12).
Other records set by the Trenton girls were Maci Moore with 19 extra base hits, breaking the previous mark of 16. Salem Croy moved into the top spot on the Lady Bulldogs career home run and RBI lists with 13 and 87, respectively. Ainsley Tolson, with one year of softball to go at THS, is now #2 in program history in both wins and strikeouts.
Trenton won the Grand River Conference championship for the second straight year, and, for the first time, won the Centralia Tournament in late September, with a 5-3, 10 inning victory over Class 3 Mexico in the title game. Trenton finished 22-3 in one of the most dominant seasons in program history, although the squad fell one win shy of a district title, with postseason nemesis Penney upsetting the Lady Bulldogs 2-1 in the District 15 championship game on Saturday, October 7th.
