Luka Garza, a former University of Iowa star, has agreed to another two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the upcoming NBA season, according to a source. Garza had previously earned a two-way contract for the 2022-23 season and made valuable contributions during his limited playing time with the Timberwolves last season.
In his sporadic appearances in the NBA, Garza showcased his offensive skills, averaging 6.5 points in just nine minutes per game while shooting an impressive 54 percent from the field. However, two-way contracts restrict the number of games a player can play with the NBA team, with the majority of their time spent in the G-League, the NBA’s developmental league.
During his time with the Iowa Wolves, the Timberwolves’ G-League affiliate, Garza displayed dominant performances, averaging 30 points and nine rebounds per game. This level of productivity is highly valued by teams, even in positions that may already have depth. Garza will occupy one of the Timberwolves’ three two-way spots for the upcoming season, while Matt Ryan, who also had a two-way contract last season, and second-round draft pick Jaylen Clark are likely to fill the other two spots.
Minnesota tendered qualifying two-way offers to Garza and Ryan at the beginning of free agency, making them restricted free agents and ensuring that the Timberwolves have the opportunity to retain them.
