The Princeton Tigers are off and running with the 2018-2019 basketball season, with the Lady Tigers beating King City 61-29 and the Tiger boys downing Stanberry 59-40 in Monday night’s quarterfinal action from the Albany Tournament.
In the Lady Tigers victory, both Payton Goodin and Jaelyn Thomas scored 19 points, as eight players reached the scoring column. Jasmine Allen had eight points and Lindsey Batson seven. For King City, Victoria Washburn netted 13 points.
The win sends Princeton into a Thursday afternoon semifinal with the Worth County Lady Tigers, a 70-23 winner on Tuesday afternoon against South Harrison. The Worth County-Princeton showdown will be broadcast at 4:45 PM on Thursday on KTTN FM 92.3, with Tom Johnson on the play-by-play call.
On the top half of the girls bracket at Albany, top-seeded Stanberry throttled Pattonsburg on Monday afternoon, 85-20, while Jefferson took down host Albany on Tuesday night, 44-29.
In Wednesday’s girls consolation semifinals, South Harrison duels with King City at 4:45, with Pattonsburg and Albany meeting at 7:45.
The Princeton boys, on Monday night, rode 18 points from Preston Thomas, nine from Colton Estes, eight each from Logan Boxley and Austin Kelly, and seven points from Zeb Schwartzkopf, to a 59-40 win over Stanberry. The #3 seed Bulldogs, in defeat, were paced by Tristen Lager with 11 points.
The win sends the Tigers into a semifinal battle with the Pattonsburg Panthers on Thursday night at 9:15, on KTTN FM 92.3. Pattonsburg was a 65-37 winner over King City on Monday night, with Cameron Jones leading the Panther attack with 27 points.
On Tuesday evening, Worth County held off #5 seed South Harrison to win 47-39, while top-seeded Jefferson beat Albany 68-28.
In the boys consolation semifinals on Wednesday night, Albany will play South Harrison at 6:15, with King City dueling with Stanberry at 9:15.
The semifinal schedule from Albany High School for Thursday starts with the KTTN-FM broadcast of the Princeton Lady Tigers against Worth County at 4:45, with the Jefferson boys playing Worth County at 6:15. The Jefferson girls challenge Stanberry at 7:45, with the KTTN broadcast of the Princeton vs. Pattonsburg boys game at 9:15.
