Tigers, Bulldogs win GRC openers, setting up Friday showdowns at GHS

The Grand River Conference opened its basketball season on Tuesday night with all 16 schools in action in girls and boys doubleheader action.  Among highlights from the area gymnasiums, the Princeton Tigers and Gallatin Bulldogs took a pair of victories, setting up an intriguing doubleheader between the schools on Friday night at Gallatin High School.

From Princeton High School, in action heard on KTTN FM 92.3, the Lady Tigers held off a late Trenton run to win by a score of 44-39.  Sophomore guard Addy Henke led Princeton with 18 points, with Grace Kelly adding eight.  Princeton is now 5-3 on the season.  Trenton, falling to a mark of 3-5, had a career-high 18 points.  Mirena King had nine points, seven of those in a fourth quarter that saw the Lady Bulldogs outscore Princeton 18-12.

The boys game saw Princeton’s explosiveness on full display, with the Tigers grabbing the lead in the first quarter and putting the contest away in the third quarter, rolling to a 74-47 win.  Princeton scored a combined 49 points in the two aforementioned quarters, as Talan Holt scored 18 of his 22 points in those stanzas.  Clay Evans had a spectacular night for the Tigers, hitting five three-point shots, including three in the third quarter, as Princeton improves to 6-1.  Evans finished with a game-high 23 points, with Jaden Finney scoring 12 and Tyler Coffman 10 points.  Trenton, slumping to 1-6, had 21 points from Kiefer Tolson with Maverick Sole scoring nine.
