The Trenton Lady Bulldogs played five games in the course of two days at the season-opening Cameron Softball Tournament, held this past Friday and Saturday.

THS, placed in the three-team “Pool A” alongside eventual tournament champion Mid-Buchanan and the Excelsior Springs Tigers, went 0-2 on Friday afternoon, with Mid-Buchanan blitzing the Lady Bulldogs 12-3 in the opening game of the season. Jena Harris, Kenzie Lynch, and Emma Roberts all had RBI’s for Trenton, with Roberts saddled with the loss.

The contest against Excelsior Springs was much more competitive, however the Lady Bulldogs came up on the short end of a 6-4 final score. Kaylor Hodge had a double for the Bulldogs in four at-bats, with Mirena King scoring twice, Kenzie Lynch grabbing an RBI and a pair of hits, with Kaegan Croy adding a double and an RBI.

The 0-2 result dropped Trenton into the “third place bracket” on Saturday, featuring the three other teams in pool play that had finished with a winless day. Trenton went 2-1 on the second day of the tourney, grabbing some momentum into a road test at Albany on Monday night, followed by the GRC opener against Putnam County at home on Tuesday night (on KTTN FM 92.3).

THS defeated the DeKalb Lady Tigers 4-2, with Madi Moore finding her swing with a 2 for 3 contest, with a pair of RBI’s and two runs scored. Hodge was 2 for 4, with Roberts picking up the win.

Against GRC rival Maysville in Saturday’s middle contest, Trenton came up short in a 5-1 final score. Hodge, Moore, and Harris had base knocks for the Bulldogs, with Moore picking up the only RBI for THS.

In the finale of the weekend, Trenton went 8 innings in grabbing a dramatic 4-2 win over Lathrop. Avery Clark got the victory from the pitching circle, with Hodge cracking three hits, Harris two hits, with Mylee Baker scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th.
