Trenton High School will be sending both doubles teams and singles entry Isaac Dixon into Class 1 tennis sectional competition, after individual play was completed on Saturday, May 6th. In the District 15 title match, the Bulldog doubles teams went head-to-head, as Trent Villacampa and Bradyn Sager defeated Maverick Sole and Tucker Otto 6-3, 6-1. In singles play, Trenton’s Dixon finished in the runner-up spot, falling in the title match to Felix De Hesselle of Richmond 6-0, 6-0.
In the doubles tournament, there were only two first-round matches, with five teams, including both from Trenton, receiving byes. In the quarterfinal round, Villacampa and Sager of THS shutout Lyon and Varner of Carrollton 6-0, 6-0, with Peterson and Reeter of Chillicothe downing Owens and Baker of Richmond 6-2, 6-0.
Sole and Otto of Trenton defeated Thogmartin and Russell of Cameron in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep, with Terryberry and Fisher of Carrollton downing Savage and Snider of Chillicothe 6-2, 6-1, setting up the semifinal battles.
Both Trenton teams won the semifinals in straight sets, with Villacampa and Sager downing Peterson and Reeter 6-0, 6-2, with Sole and Otto taking down Terryberry and Fisher 6-2, 6-1.
Peterson and Reeter of Chillicothe salvaged third place, defeating Terryberry and Fisher in a very competitive 8-6 duel.
In singles competition, De Hesselle rolled to the championship for Richmond, with a 6-0, 6-1 quarterfinal win over Victor Markell of Trenton, a 6-2, 6-1 semifinal win over Jadon Collins of Chillicothe, and the title match two-set sweep of Trenton’s Dixon.
Dixon won three consecutive matches to reach the title matchup and earn a spot in sectionals, with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jordyn Nichols of Carrollton, followed by the most competitive match of the day, with Dixon outlasting Josh Adams of Chillicothe 6-4, 4-6, 11-9. Dixon had an earlier time of things in the semifinal round against Spencer Pratt of Cameron, winning 6-4, 6-2. Â
Jadon Collins of Chillicothe took the third place match against Spencer Pratt of Cameron 8-6.
