THS opens baseball season showing improvement, with 2-2 record into GRC opener

The baseball season at Trenton High School is up and running, with the Bulldogs traveling to Carrollton High School to play the Trojans on Monday (March 20th), leaving town with an 8-5 victory.

Aiden Weyer and Elijah Miller both had home runs for Trenton. Carrollton won the junior varsity contest, taking a 4-3 win.

On the following night, Trenton welcomed the Penney Hornets to Burleigh Grimes Field for the Bulldogs home opener, with THS hammering the visitors from Hamilton, 25-6.  The game was the season opener for the Hornets.

Trenton suffered a loss for the first time this season on Friday night, falling by a 3-1 final score against the Lathrop Mules.  Lathrop scored a single tally in the top of the 3rd inning off Trenton starter Brayden Wiggins to grab a 1-0 lead, with the ‘Dogs answering in the bottom of of the 4th, as Gabe Novak was driven home on a Sam Gibson double.  The Mules grabbed the win with single runs in the top of the 5th and 7th innings.  

The Bulldog defense faltered in the loss to Lathrop, with five errors hampering Trenton’s shot at a third straight triumph.  Wiggins went six innings in the loss, allowing only four hits, with only one of the two runs earned.  He struck out seven and walked three.  Elijah Miller worked the 7th, giving up a hit and a run, striking out three batters.

The wheels came off Trenton’s wagon, at least for one night, on Monday night at home against the Cameron Dragons, with Bulldog pitching allowing 14 walks over six innings of work, as the Dragons swamped Trenton 18-4.

Cameron opened the scoring with six runs in the 3rd inning, adding three runs in the 5th, and an overwhelming 10 run output n the 6th.  Trenton scored all four of its runs in the 5th inning.

The Bulldog offense was scuffled with just three hits.  Gibson, Cagle, Miller, and Griffin scored runs.  Wiggins had a pair of RBI’s.  Trenton’s offense had difficulty making consistent contact, with 14 punch-outs from CHS pitching.

Still showing vast early season improvement with a record of 2-2, Trenton dips its toe into Grand River Conference play on Wednesday night, hosting the Princeton Tigers at 5 o’clock.
