The Trenton Lady Bulldogs claimed a 9-7 road victory on Tuesday night at Brookfield High School, grabbing late-season momentum toward next week’s district tournament in Unionville.
Trenton dominated early, scoring a first inning run on a base hit by Mirena King to take a 1-0 edge. The Lady Bulldogs extended the lead to 3-0 on a two-run single by Ayra Meeker in the third inning, with three runs in the top of the fifth inning giving Trenton a 6-0 advantage.
Brookfield scored a single tally in the bottom of the 5th to get on the board against Trenton starter Avery Clark, only to see the visitors answer with three more 6th inning runs, boosting the lead to 9-1.
Brookfield put a giant scare into THS in the bottom of the 6th, sending 10 batters to the plate against junior right-hander Emma Roberts, with six runs crossing the plate slicing the Lady Bulldogs lead to 9-7. Trenton caught a break to keep the lead at two, with a potential RBI hit off the bat of Diana Linscott snared by shortstop Mirena King to end the inning.
Trenton head coach Madi Stillwell chose to return Clark to the game in the bottom of the 7th inning, with three consecutive strikeouts giving the sophomore the win and the save in Trenton’s 13th victory of the season, dropping Brookfield to 12-7. The game was broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
For THS, King was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored, Jena Harris 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored, Madi Moore 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Katelyn Clark 3 for 3, Kaylor Hodge 1 for 3 with two runs scored, with Ayra Meeker and Kenzie Lynch adding base hits. Freshman Mylee Baker scored a run.
