The Trenton Lady Bulldogs locked up the Grand River Conference’s Eastern Division title, with a 60-19 victory over the Polo Lady Panthers on Monday night. Trenton, coming off the Hamilton Tournament title on Saturday night, came out of the gates flat against the heavy underdogs from Polo, with the Lady Panthers tied with THS after one quarter, 9-9.
The second quarter was dominated by Trenton, as the home team outscored the Lady Panthers 28-3, and were never threatened again. Freshman Maci Moore had 10 of her game-high 14 points in the second quarter to lead the Trenton surge of momentum that saw eight Lady Bulldogs score over the eight minute whirlwind.
Joining Moore in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs was Mykah Hurley, with 11 points. Ainsley Tolson added nine points and Ashten Whitaker eight, as Trenton improves to 19-1 on the season, 6-0 in the Grand River Conference. Polo, in dropping to 7-11 overall, and 2-4 in the GRC East, had six points each from Taylor Wagner and Shelby Copeland.
The boys game from Trenton High School went to the host Bulldogs, as Trenton overwhelmed a Polo squad playing without leading scorer James Fleener, 67-39. The ‘Dogs jumped out to a 18-7 lead after one quarter, with Polo’s strongest push after that point coming early in the third quarter, with Trenton “righting the ship” midway through the third, regaining a 21 point lead going into the final eight minutes.
Lathan Croy hit seven three-point shots in a 21 point night to lead the Bulldogs, with Carson Radcliff adding 14, and Max McNabb 13. The win keeps the Bulldogs hopes of a GRC East title alive, with Trenton now 10-10 overall, and 4-2 in the GRC, tied with Putnam County for second place, one game behind Milan. Tonight, Trenton can clinch the East title with a victory over Putnam County (7:30 PM / Hot Country Z 101.7) AND a Gallatin victory at Milan. A Wildcat victory over Gallatin (7:30 PM / KTTN FM 92.3) would clinch the GRC East title for Milan’s boys.
Polo’s boys, now 9-10 overall and 2-4 in the GRC East, had 15 points from Jared Robison and 11 points from Joe Beaker. Polo’s scheduled home games against the South Harrison Bulldogs, originally scheduled for tonight (Tuesday night), have been postponed, with illness having the South Harrison district out of session. The games will be played on Wednesday night at Polo High School at 6 o’clock and 7:30.
