The Trenton girls and boys basketball teams absorbed losses on Tuesday night, in quarterfinal round contests from the Hamilton Invitational Tournament.

The South Harrison Lady Bulldogs held a double-digit lead into the early portions of the fourth quarter against a cold-shooting Trenton squad, but the #3 seed out of Bethany had to hold on for the final moments of regulation, defeating their GRC rivals 42-38.  Trenton rallied on the strength of five three-point field goals in the fourth quarter, but got no closer than two points.

The win saw Hannah Carter lead SHHS (13-5) with 17 points with Abby Molloy adding 10.  Trenton (6-12) had 13 points from Mirena King while Kaylor Hodge added 12.

The Trenton boys failed in their efforts to find the win column, but played very competitive basketball in a 75-62 loss to an East Buchanan team that improved to 11-3 on the season.  THS, in falling to 3-13, trailed by a score of 23-16 after one quarter but rallied on the strength of eight points from guard Bradyn Sager in the second quarter, tying the game at 33 at the half.

However, for the second consecutive game, a poor third quarter ended Trenton’s upset hopes, as EB scored the Bulldogs 22-8 in the frame, holding on for the win in the final quarter.

Sophomore guard Kiefer Tolson led Trenton with 29 points, with Gabe Novak and Sager both scoring 11.  East Buchanan had 20 points from Isaiah Watkins, 17 from Gage Busby, 15 from Carson White, and 11 points from Adamstephen Engnes.

In quarterfinal action to open the Tuesday night session at Penney High School, the Lathrop Lady Mules defeated Higginsville 61-47 with the Higginsville boys rolling to a 76-29 win over the host Penney Hornets.
