Three members of the Princeton High School cross-country team, including two who do “double duty” on the district champion Tiger football team, are on their way to Jefferson City for the Class 1 cross country meet.
Sophomore Preston Thomas, in his first year participating in cross country, finished second last week at the district meet in Smithville, with junior Logan Dunkin placing sixth, and sophomore Tyler Richter in 10th place. Top 15 runners in each district advance to state, to be held at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City.
The trip to state is the first in the careers of Thomas and Richter, while Dunkin is making his third trip to the state meet. It marks the first time in the history of Princeton High School that the Tigers have qualified three boys for state.
Princeton allows kids to “dual sport”, which is what Dunkin and Thomas are doing. The trio left immediately after Princeton’s 46-16 district football win over Hamilton for Jefferson City.
Princeton’s cross country coach is Shanin Parks.
