Damian Lillard, the seven-time NBA All-Star and longtime member of the Portland Trail Blazers, remains steadfast in his desire to be traded to the Miami Heat. Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, confirmed this stance and expressed hope that the Trail Blazers can engage in discussions with the Heat in the coming days, as the NBA gathers in Las Vegas for Summer League.

The Trail Blazers publicly disclosed Lillard’s trade request over the past weekend, ending weeks of speculation about his future in Portland. Lillard expressed his desire to have a chance to contend for a championship, as the Trail Blazers have had limited playoff success during his 11-year career, winning only four playoff series and missing the playoffs in the past two seasons.

Goodwin stated, “I’m hopeful that at least talks will initiate since they’re all going to be in one place. That’s my hope.”

For any trade to materialize, it would require a significant package of players and draft picks. Lillard is set to earn almost $46 million in the upcoming season and could potentially earn up to $216 million over the next four years if he exercises his option for the 2026-27 season.

Goodwin emphasized that a potential solution lies in the Heat having an opportunity to engage in direct discussions with the Trail Blazers. He believes that if both teams can sit down together, a trade could be possible.

Lillard had an outstanding season, averaging 32.2 points per game. He has averaged at least 24 points per game in each of the last eight seasons and possesses an offensive prowess that sets him apart in the NBA. Lillard became only the seventh player in NBA history to score over 70 points in a game, accomplishing the feat on February 26 against the Houston Rockets. The other players on that list include Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, David Robinson, Elgin Baylor, and Donovan Mitchell.

Despite being 32 years old, Lillard has shown no signs of decline. He remains a potent offensive force and would be a valuable addition to the Miami Heat, who are the reigning Eastern Conference champions. With established contenders like Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo on their roster, adding Lillard would only bolster their championship aspirations.

Goodwin concluded, “Dame’s position won’t change. This entire situation was about building an opportunity for Portland to win or giving him another opportunity that he wants, which is Miami.”
