Strong Linn County hoops teams advance to Northwestern Invitational semifinals

The Linn County Mustangs are both 2-0 to begin the girls and boys basketball seasons, with victories over Grundy County on Tuesday, November 22nd, followed by triumphs over Bucklin/Macon County (girls) and Keytesville (boys) in Monday night’s quarterfinals at the Northwestern Tournament in Mendon.

Linn County, in Thursday’s semifinal round, will play in the “early” games, as the #3 seed Lady Mustangs draw #2 seed Hale at 4:30, followed by the #3 seeded Mustangs boys getting the host, the #2 seed Northwestern Eagles, at 5:45.

Other semifinals on Thursday will be the #1 seed Higbee girls against Northwestern at 7:00, and the #1 seed Meadville boys against Higbee at 8:15.

On Tuesday night, the quarterfinal results from Northwestern were:

(Girls) Higbee 72, Brunswick 22

(Boys) Higbee 55, Brunswick 30

(Girls) Hale 50, Keytesville 30

(Boys) Northwestern 71, Hale 41

Consolation semifinals will be played tonight (Wednesday night) in Mendon, with the Meadville Lady Eagles taking on Brunswick at 4:30, followed by the Brunswick boys taking the floor against Bucklin-Macon County at 5:45.  At 7 o’clock, the Bucklin-Macon County girls challenge Keytesville, with the Hale boys finishing the night against Keytesville, scheduled for a 8:15 tip.
