The Princeton Lady Tigers, frustrated in Grand River Conference play in a pair of one-run losses to Milan (10-9) and South Harrison (4-3), were able to get off the mat and into the win column on Thursday night, with a four-run first inning critical in a 6-2 final score at Polo.
Leadoff hitter Lacie Lewis sparked the Princeton offense with a pair of base hits and a run scored, with Megan Hydorn and Jayci Lewis joining in the two-hit parade. Â Lindsay Batson scored a pair of runs, while Vivian Allen had a pair of RBI’s for the Lady Tigers. Â Payton Goodin earned the victory, holding Polo’s offense to four hits over seven innings of work, with the Lady Panthers scoring single runs in the 4th and 6th innings.
Up the road from Polo, the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs rallied from a six-run first-inning hole to defeat upset-minded South Harrison, keeping the Bethany girls from grabbing their third victory in GRC play this season. Â Baker got the victory in relief for Gallatin, replacing a struggling Salmon in the first inning, going seven frames, and holding South Harrison to four runs (one earned) and seven hits in seven innings. Â Salmon gave up one hit and three runs, all earned, in failing to register an out in the contest.
Down 6-0 going to the home half of the 1st inning, Gallatin put a two spot on the board, then ripped the lead away from South Harrison with five runs in the home 2nd. Â Gallatin added to the advantage with three runs in the 5th inning and a tally in the 6th. South Harrison added a 7th inning run, falling by the four-run margin.
