The Grand River Conference Western Division champion Stanberry Lady Bulldogs beat the GRC’s Eastern Division runner-up Gallatin Lady Bulldogs, 51-49 on Wednesday night, in the semifinals of Class 2, District 16 at Mid-Buchanan High School in Faucett.
Madi Sager led Stanberry with 13 points, while Kalie Peterson had 11, Peyton Gage 10, and Lily Osborn eight points. Â Gallatin, in its final game of the 2016-2017 season, had a game-high 19 point effort from sophomore Karley Salmon, while Cora Stout and Hayley Michael both added 10.
The win sends Stanberry into the district championship game, Friday night at 6 o’clock, to duel with the Mid-Buchanan Lady Dragons. Â The #1 seed and host school for the tournament walloped KCI rival Plattsburg in Wednesday’s first girls semifinal, 62-36.
The boys semifinals are tonight (Thursday night) from Mid-Buchanan, as the #1 seeded Stanberry Bulldogs take on Plattsburg at 5:30, followed by the Mid-Buchanan Dragons entertaining the Maysville Wolverines at 7 o’clock. Â The boys championship game is set for Saturday afternoon at 1.
