Sporting Kansas City, on the strength of first-half goals by Jose Mauri and Johnny Russell, beat the Chicago Fire on Saturday night at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, by a final score of 2-0.

Both goals for Sporting came in the six minutes of play, with Kansas City keeping the scoresheet clean from there.  In head-to-head action, Sporting has won six straight matches on its home turf against the Fire, with Chicago’s record dropping to 6-12-5, unable to keep road momentum going off of a 1-0 win at New York in the club’s prior performance.

Mauri scored in the fourth minutes, and Russell scored two minutes later for Kansas City.  Mauri’s goal was the direct result of a misplay by Chicago keeper Bobby Shuttleworth, with Russell’s tally coming off a rebound from a breakaway attempt by teammate Daniel Salloi.

Sporting Kansas City (12-5-7) will host Minnesota on Wednesday night, with Chicago at D.C. United, also on Wednesday night.
