Sporting Kansas City forward Alan Pulido has been named the MLS Player of the Month for June, as announced by Major League Soccer. The 32-year-old Mexican striker had an outstanding month, scoring a club-record and league-leading six goals, along with providing a game-winning assist.
Pulido expressed his happiness and pride at receiving the award, acknowledging the contribution of his teammates and the support of the fans. He credited his success to the collective effort of the team.
During June, Pulido scored in four consecutive regular season matches, joining an elite group of players in Sporting Kansas City’s history. He became the seventh player to achieve this feat and the first since Johnny Russell in 2021. Pulido played a crucial role in seven out of Sporting Kansas City’s eight goals in June, either scoring or assisting them.
With his impressive performances, Pulido continues to make his mark in MLS. As a finalist for the MLS Newcomer of the Year award in 2020, he has already scored 21 goals and provided 11 assists in 49 regular season matches. Among all players with at least 20 goals for Sporting Kansas City, Pulido boasts the best strike rate in club history, averaging 0.52 goals per 90 minutes.
Pulido’s achievements are even more notable considering his recent injury history. He missed the entire 2022 season due to knee surgery but made a successful return to the field in April after sitting out 45 consecutive regular season matches. In the current season, Pulido leads Sporting KC with 11 goal contributions (eight goals and three assists) across all competitions.
This recognition as the MLS Player of the Month marks a significant achievement for Pulido and establishes him as a key figure in Sporting Kansas City. He becomes the first player from the club to win this award since Felipe Gutierrez in March 2018. The MLS Player of the Month is selected through a voting process conducted by MLS Communications, with input from a panel of selected national media members.
