Sporting Kansas City gave up the first goal of Sunday’s MLS contest at Children’s Mercy Park, before storming back with four consecutive goals in a 4-1 triumph over the visiting Portland Timbers, improving to 3-8-4 on the season, while dropping the Oregon side to 4-7-4.
Franck Boli knotted his third goal of the season in the opening minutes of play, before Erik Thommy equalized the board for KC, finishing off a Marinos Tzionis pass to even the score at 1-1.
Daniel Salloi scored the go-ahead tally off a Graham Zusi assist in the 66th minute, before Kansas City put the contest away off a Portland own goal off of Larrys Mabiala two minutes later, and a Felipe Hernandez goal three minutes into stoppage time. Sporting, with the win, avenged a 1-0 loss at Portland in the season opener.
Sporting Kansas City will return to MLS action on Wednesday night, hosting FC Dallas in a 7:30 kickoff at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
