Sporting Kansas City has signed a multi-year agreement with Fox Sports Kansas City to air the franchise’s games in Major League Soccer, beginning in 2017. The agreement will send all Sporting games, not picked up by national television, to FSKC, a station covering Kansas, Nebraska, and western Missouri. Selected games will go onto the St. Louis based-Fox Sports Midwest, pushing viewership toward central and eastern Missouri and into Iowa.
Play-by-play announcer Nate Bukaty will be retained by Sporting, however team President Jake Reid says a search is underway to fill the positions held by color analyst Andy Gruenebaum and sideline reporter Jake Yadrich, who were not retained.
The Kansas City Royals have had their games on Fox Sports Kansas City for the past nine seasons. In the event of a Royals/Sporting game conflict, the soccer match would be bumped to FSKC Plus, a secondary channel.
Sporting Kansas City, a franchise in Major League Soccer, plays in home games at Children’s Mercy Park, adjacent to the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.
