Sporting Kansas City’s next opponent in the quest for the 2022 U.S. Open Cup will be Sacramento Republic FC, with the semifinal matchup at Heart Health Park in Sacramento scheduled for Wednesday, July 27th on ESPN+.

The winner of the game from California’s capital city will advance to the U.S. Open Cup championship game on September 7th, against either the New York Red Bulls, Orlando City SC, or Nashville SC.  The Red Bulls have a spot in the semifinal round, with Orlando and Nashville playing on Wednesday, June 29th in a quarterfinal round matchup.

Unlike Sporting, a member of Major League Soccer, Sacramento is from the USL, leaving the California side as the only lower division team remaining in the tournament.  Sacramento has victories over the Portland Timbers U-23’d, Central Valley Fuego FC, Phoenix Rising FC, San Jose Earthquakes, and L.A. Galaxy in this year’s tournament to date.

Sporting earned a spot in the semifinals with a 6-0 quarterfinal win over Union Omaha on Wednesday, June 22nd at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
