The South Harrison Bulldogs, in a season-opening triangular wrestling battle on Tuesday night, downed the Trenton Bulldogs 42-27 and the Gallatin Bulldogs 42-36 to take the perfect 2-0 record in action from the Gallatin High School gymnasium. Trenton went 0-2 on the night, falling to Gallatin 46-18 in head-to-head competition.
Trenton, considered by many to be the preseason favorite in the Grand River Conference for 2020-2021, had what Coach Charlie Bacon called “a rough night”, although THS did win 5 out of the 8 matches against South Harrison not decided by forfeit. Trenton was shorthanded for the event, missing Coleman Griffin and Caleb Johnson, one a returning state qualifier and the other a state medalist, making the effort to grab team victories more challenging.
Against Gallatin, Coach Bacon admitted to mistakes made by Trenton, adding that THS “was flat out beat” by the defending conference champions. Trenton, according to Bacon, struggled with fundamentals and having the consistent errors put the Bulldogs on their backs, giving Gallatin valuable fall points.
