The Grand River Conference will recognize football tri-champions for the second consecutive year in its eastern division, despite Princeton having one loess GRC win than rivals Milan and South Harrison.
Princeton did not play in Week 3 due to a COVID-19 issued quarantine in the Trenton High School football program. Trenton is 0-7 on the season.
The GRC East unanimously voted to declare tri-champions this season, nodding to fairness in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Milan (8-1, 6-1), South Harrison (7-2, 6-1), and Princeton (6-2, 5-1) will share the title. Last season, South Harrison shared the GRC crown with Princeton and Gallatin, but it was South Harrison that won districts, advancing all the way to the Class 1 quarterfinals, where the Bulldogs season ended at Mid-Buchanan.
This past Friday night, South Harrison rolled to a victory at Trenton, in action heard on Hot Country Z 101.7, 48-16. South Harrison had a 47 yard touchdown run from Justice Cook to open the scoring, adding a 16 yard scoring run by Gradyn Linthacum, a pair of TD runs from senior quarterback Austin Lasher, and a nine yard scoring scamper by Brayden Sunderman for a halftime lead of 34-0.
Trenton outscored South Harrison 16-14 in the second half. South Harrison’s scores came on a 60 yard fumble return by Linthacum and a 15 yard run from Sunderman. Â
Trenton got on the board with a 56 yard touchdown by senior halfback Quincy Griffin with five seconds remaining in the third quarter. Tom Johnson had the play-by-play call:Â
THS added eight more points with 2:40 left, as Gabe Novak took a triple-option pitch from Coleman Griffin to score:Â
Payden McCullough added the two-point conversion. Trenton will open postseason play at Lexington this Friday night, October 30th on Hot Country Z 101.7. South Harrison, earning the #1 seed by virtue of a head-to-head win against Milan, will not play Putnam County in the quarterfinals, after the Midgets announced a lack of players due to COVID-19 quarantine issues. The Bulldogs will advance to the semifinal round, hosting either Penney or Gallatin on Friday, November 6th.
Linthacum had 90 yards rushing, Sunderman 89, and Lasher 72 for South Harrison. McCullough had 12 carries for 64 yards and Novak six carries for 45 yards for Trenton.Â
In the Princeton at Gallatin game, broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, the Tigers earned a piece of the GRC title with a hard-earned 28-18 road win over the rival Bulldogs.

Milan’s rebound from the Week 7 loss at South Harrison has been decisively good, as the Wildcats hammered Maysville, 43-6, winning their last two regular season games by a combined score of 92-9. Here is head coach John Dabney:Â
