The South Harrison Lady Bulldogs and Maysville Lady Wolverines continued their strong starts to the softball season, both taking victories on Thursday night to improve to 2-0 in Grand River Conference play, tied atop the standings.
In Bethany, South Harrison backed up Monday night’s 5-4 win against Putnam County with an 8-6 triumph over Princeton, dropping the Lady Tigers to 2-2 overall, and 0-2 in GRC play, heading into a Tuesday night trip to Trenton.
Meanwhile, in Maysville, Trenton’s Lady Bulldogs ran into the Lady Wolverines buzzsaw, as Maysville broke open the game to a five-spot in the bottom of the third inning, ending it with a four-run sixth inning rally, for a 12-2 run-rule, six inning win.
Emma Roberts and Jenna Reeter combined for the pitching effort for Trenton, with Roberts giving up a pair of homers to Maysville in the 2 2/3 inning start. Reeter’s four runs allowed were all unearned, as Trenton committed five errors in the game.
Chandler Lynch smacked a solo home run for Trenton (1-2, 0-1), with Gracyn Rongey, Maci Moore, Eliana Cowling, and Shay Westerhof adding hits. Westerhof had the other RBI for Trenton, scoring Teya Cooksey, who had a pair of hits in the contest.
Polo’s Lady Panthers broke open a 4-4 tie with four runs in the top of the 7th inning off of Gallatin starting pitcher Caragan Baker, as PHS earned the 8-4 road win. Trailing 4-0 going into the fourth inning, Polo’s Misel hit a three-run homer, part of a four-run uprising that tied the game. Mallory Clevenger drove in the go-ahead run with a 7th inning single. Baker had three hits for Gallatin, including a run-scoring single in the bottom of the first, part of a two-run rally to give the Lady Bulldogs the early lead. Jenee Qualman was 2 for 4 for Polo.
