South Carolina coach Shane Beamer secured a major recruiting victory as five-star edge rusher Dylan Stewart announced his commitment to the Gamecocks. Stewart, ranked as the No. 15 recruit overall in the 2024 class, hails from Washington, D.C., and is a highly sought-after prospect at 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds. He is also ranked as the No. 3 defensive end in his class.

Despite receiving offers from numerous top programs in the country, including Ohio State, Georgia, Miami, Penn State, and Alabama, Stewart ultimately chose South Carolina. His official visit to the Gamecocks in June solidified his decision, where he was impressed by the people, the city, and the state. Coach Shane Beamer’s player-friendly approach and the positive atmosphere around the program were also key factors in his decision.

Stewart will play the Jack position in South Carolina’s defense, which allows him to showcase his versatility. The coaches have plans for him to rush from multiple positions, participate in off-the-ball blitzes, drop into coverage, and execute stunts to pressure the quarterback.

While Stewart understands it will take time and effort to earn playing time, he has high expectations for himself and believes he can be a Day 1 starter for the Gamecocks. His commitment marks a significant addition to South Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class, as he is the first five-star recruit to choose the program since defensive end Jordan Burch in the 2020 class. With Stewart’s commitment, the Gamecocks now have seven ESPN 300 commitments in the 2024 cycle.
