The Gallatin Bulldogs, in the Class 1 state boy’s golf tournament in Springfield, have a 9-stroke lead over Bloomfield through the first day of the two-day event. Gallatin’s Jett Simmons shot 71 on Monday, leading the Class 1 field by four strokes over the 75 of runner-up Holden Duckworth of Bloomfield. Meanwhile, in New Bloomfield, Trenton High School senior Lathan Croy shot a 75 on Monday, leaving him in third place behind a pair of Bishop LeBlond, in Hank Lierz (who shot a leading 69) and Brooks Jungbluth (who shot 71). LeBlond, featuring three of the top four scores from Round #1 (Jeffrey Johnston shot a fourth-place tying 76), is well in front of the team competition, shooting 302, 33 shots ahead of second-place Christian’s total of 335.
In Class 1, Gallatin’s leading team total of 340 came from Simmons’ 71, along with 86 from Gabe Cole, 91 for Logan Burns, 92 from Colin Beck, and a 94 shot by Haden Bradford. Other Class 1 scores of note were Jeffrey Hamilton of Marceline at 81, Ryan Chrisman of Marceline at 84, Austin Sweiger of Maysville at 87, Mitchell Carroll of Stanberry at 90, Ryan McClellan of Worth County at 99, and Collin Breckenridge of King City at 104.
The South Harrison Bulldogs are in the team competition in Class 2, shooting 363 on Monday, good for 5th place. South Harrison’s individual scores were 87 from Austin Lasher, 89 from Grant Taylor, 92 for Koltyn Smith, and a 95 shot by Grant Taylor.
Ethan Green of Penney shot an 80 on Monday, good for a 9th place tie, while Garrett Stephens of Plattsburg shot 88 and Nicholas Wyckoff of Penney 94, at the New Bloomfield course.
