Over 125 high schools from across the Midwest will converge on the Kansas City River Bottoms when the second annual Twelve Courts of Christmas tips off this coming Friday in Kansas City. A total of 120 games with over 200 teams are planning to attend with all games scheduled for the Hy-Vee Arena (formerly Kemper Arena).
Teams from across Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Illinois will participate in the shootout for both boys and girl’s teams. Event Director and Trenton native Steve Maxey says the event has increased from the 134 teams in the inaugural year to over 210 teams this year. He believes that the success is due to teams looking to face teams they would never see and for many, the opportunity to play teams from other states. In addition, Maxey says Hy-Vee Arena itself is a drawing card for teams that are not only looking for a venue that is located in the center of the region, but the history of the arena and its recent refurbishing has lots of folks excited about playing in such an iconic event center.
Maxey says this event is not only a well-organized basketball shootout, but a huge boost to the region’s economy with over 3,000 student/athletes expected to attend. Thus, bringing family, friends, and lovers of basketball to Kansas City; an estimated 20,000 – 25,000 fans expected to be in town for not only basketball, but lodging, dining, and enjoying the many amenities of Kansas City at the holiday time.
Games begin on December 16 and 17th and continue Dec 19-22 and resume on Dec 28-30.
