The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has agreed to a one-year contract plus a mutual option for the 2020 season with right-handed pitcher Wily Peralta. This agreement supersedes the contract he signed prior to the 2018 season. Consistent with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Peralta, 29, made a career-high 37 appearances this season, his first with Kansas City, and posted a 3.67 ERA (14 ER in 34.1 IP), his lowest since 2014 with Milwaukee. Peralta started the season at Triple-A Omaha, and was selected on June 17. He went 14-for-14 in save opportunities with Kansas City, becoming the first Royal to record at least 10 saves without blowing one in a single season. He and Ken Giles (26-for-26) were the only pitchers in the Majors this season with a perfect save percentage (min. 10 saves).
The Royals also announced today that they have sent right-handed pitcher Nate Karns outright to Triple-A Omaha. In lieu of accepting this assignment, Karns has elected free agency.
Additionally, left-handed pitcher Jerry Vasto has been claimed off Outright Waivers by the Chicago Cubs.
Following today’s transactions, Kansas City has 37 players on its Major League Reserve List.
