In a rainy and chilly game at Camden Yards, the Kansas City Royals secured a 4-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night, largely thanks to an outstanding pitching performance by Alec Marsh.

Marsh, in just his second season, delivered an exceptional outing, tossing seven innings of two-hit ball while displaying excellent control. He struck out five batters, walked only one, and retired the Orioles’ lineup in order five times. This marked a significant improvement for Marsh, who had not previously pitched more than six innings or allowed fewer than three hits in any outing longer than an inning. His efficient performance, with just 72 pitches thrown, showcased his development on the mound.

Offensively, the Royals were led by Maikel Garcia, who contributed three RBIs with a two-run double in the second inning and an RBI triple in the fourth.

Despite the wet and chilly conditions, with temperatures dipping into the 40s, the announced crowd of 9,404 witnessed Marsh’s dominant performance and the Royals’ offensive production.

The Orioles managed to score their lone run in the third inning on consecutive doubles by Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser, but they struggled to generate much offense against Marsh and the Royals’ bullpen.

Royals reliever Jake Brentz took a step forward in his recovery from a left hamstring strain by throwing in the bullpen for the first time since landing on the injured list last month. Brentz, who also underwent elbow surgery in 2022, has yet to make an appearance in the big leagues this season.

In Wednesday’s series finale, the Orioles will send ace Corbin Burnes to the mound to face Royals’ opening day starter Cole Ragans.
