(TSX / STATS) — The Kansas City Royals recalled right-hander Jakob Junis from Triple-A Omaha to start Tuesday night’s game against the red-hot Houston Astros.
The Royals also announced that right-hander Seth Maness has been optioned to Omaha.
Junis, 24, will be making his second major league start. He started against the Minnesota Twins on May 21 and gave up two runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Junis has been dominating hitters at Omaha with 57 strikeouts against just eight walks in 42 1/3 innings. He is 2-2 with a 2.34 ERA.
Maness was 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA in eight relief appearances for the Royals.
The Astros are looking for their 12th consecutive victory on Tuesday, which would match the club record shared by the 1999 and 2004 teams.
