The Kansas City Royals are hoping to break their streak of not being able to secure back-to-back wins when they face the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. The Royals ended a stretch of three wins in 18 games with a 1-0 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday, with Matt Beaty driving in the game’s only run.
Beaty, who was acquired by the Royals after being designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants earlier this month, expressed his excitement about returning to the Royals organization.
Brady Singer will start on the mound for the Royals in the rubber match of the three-game series. Singer has lost his last two starts and will be looking for better results against the Tigers. In his previous outing against Detroit on May 22, Singer allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings but didn’t receive a decision.
Singer has historically performed well against the Tigers, boasting a 6-0 record and a 3.05 ERA in 11 career starts against them. However, run support has been lacking for Singer, as the Royals have scored only five runs in his past four starts.
Opposing Singer will be Matthew Boyd, a left-hander who has struggled to find consistency this season. Boyd has particularly struggled in his home park, posting an 0-5 record with an 8.46 ERA in six starts there. In his last start, Boyd earned a victory against the Minnesota Twins, allowing four runs over six innings.
Boyd has faced the Royals 28 times, with a 7-11 record and a 5.32 ERA. Today’s game can be heard on KTTN AM 1600 and FM 98.3, with pregame at 11:30 and first pitch at 12:10.
