The Kansas City Royals hope to take the momentum from back-to-back wins against the Chicago White Sox into Oakland, California, with a three-game series against the Athletics beginning tonight (Monday night) at 9:07.
Rookie right-hander Jake Junis has returned to the Royals, arriving in the clubhouse on Sunday morning in Chicago. Â Manager Ned Yost has confirmed that Junis will start the opener in Oakland, although the Royals are waiting until Monday to make an official roster move. Â
Junis has been generally solid for the Royals this season, making seven starts and amassing a 4.70 ERA over ten total appearances while spending a good deal of the summer on the “I-29 express” between AAA Omaha and the big club at Kauffman Stadium. Â The Royals needed a Monday night starter after placing veteran right-hander Trevor Cahill on the 10-day disabled list with rotator cuff weakness.
