Two more members of the Kansas City Royals have revealed positive tests for COVID-19, with pitcher Brad Keller and first baseman Ryan O’Hearn revealing their diagnoses on Tuesday morning.
Keller is 24 and in his third season with the Royals, joining the team in December 2017 as a Rule 5 selection. In a statement announcing the results, he said, “Of course I as devastated when I heard the news from Trainer Nick Kenney that I had two positive tests. I was sent home yesterday. I am experiencing minor symptoms that remind me more of an allergy attack. Other than that I feel great and have no other symptoms, including no cough or fever. I would encourage everyone to stay safe.”.
The 26 year-old O’Hearn played 105 games for KC last season, hitting 14 home runs. In his statement, O’Hearn said, “I am asymptomatic and feel fine physically. It’s been a really tough summer waiting for the season to start and to have a setback like this, albeit hopefully a brief one, just makes me that much hungrier. It is really important for everybody to pay attention to their surroundings and don’t assume that you’re not vulnerable, because everyone is.”
Kansas City has begun workouts at Kauffman Stadium in preparation for the season opener at Cleveland on Friday night, July 24th.
