High School Football Local Sports

Trenton High School scored 25 points in the second quarter to blow open a close game and defeat the Maysville Wolverines on Friday night, 48-22.  The victory is Trenton’s second of the season, improving the Bulldogs to 2-5, while dropping Maysville to 0-7.

In the contest from C.F. Russell Stadium, broadcast on KGOZ FM 101.7, Trenton opened the scoring with a 21 yard field goal from Gonzalo Mascorro, taking a 3-0 lead into the quarter break.

After four minutes of no scoring for either side in the second quarter, the host Bulldogs pushed the lead to 9-0, with senior quarterback Mason Rongey scoring one a 3-yard keeper.  The PAT failed, leaving Trenton with a 9 point lead.

With just over six minutes remaining in the second quarter, Trenton extended the lead to 15-0 on a 15 yard touchdown run by Cooper Houser, with a two-point conversion pass failing.  The lead went to 21-0 with 1 minute to go in the half on a 6 yard Rongey run.

Maysville jumped into the scoring fest on the ensuing kickoff, with Quenten Taylor racing 80 yards for a touchdown, with Walker Tracy scoring on a two-point plunge.  However, Trenton was not done scoring, as on the final play in the half, Rongey hit junior tight end Elijah Miller on a 38 yard scoring pass down the north sideline of C.F. Russell Stadium, with the Mascorro PAT putting Trenton up 28-8.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the third quarter, with a Rongey 15 yard TD run and Houser eight yard TD run sending the advantage to 42-8.  Maysville scored on the final play of the third quarter on a Carson Bray to Dillon Willis touchdown pass of 10 yards.

The teams split touchdowns in the fourth quarter, as Trenton freshman Sam Ledbetter scored his first varsity points on a one yard touchdown run with 6:18 remaining.  A 33 yard strike from Bray to Willis finished the scoring with 4:32 remaining.

Trenton will look to keep its late season momentum going into a road trip to Chester Ray Stadium at Marceline High School on Friday night at 7 o’clock, with coverage on KGOZ FM 101.7.  Maysville’s non-conference game is this week, with the East Buchanan Bulldogs at Cemetery Bowl for a 7 o’clock Friday night kickoff.
