Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to face charges from the Dallas Police Department following his involvement in a multi-vehicle car crash on March 30 in northeast Dallas. Rice, driving a Lamborghini SUV, caused the crash, according to his attorney Royce West. The incident triggered a chain reaction collision involving four other vehicles. Two drivers received treatment at the scene for minor injuries, while two occupants of another vehicle were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The preliminary investigation by the Dallas Police Department revealed that Rice and the driver of a Corvette, owned by Rice, were speeding on an expressway and lost control, resulting in the crash. Both Rice and the Corvette driver fled the scene, as captured in photos. Rice began receiving counsel from West the following day. West emphasized that Rice was not attempting to evade responsibility but was willing to cooperate with authorities.
Police responded to the crash around 6:25 p.m. CT on March 30. Rice and West met with the police on April 3 to provide information about the incident. Rice publicly acknowledged his responsibility for the crash via an Instagram post.
Rice could face felony charges for drag racing and fleeing the crash. If convicted, he could receive a prison sentence. Despite the absence of criminal charges, Rice may still face suspension from the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, which emphasizes responsible and lawful behavior. The league’s broad disciplinary power allows for potential suspension even without a conviction.
West expressed hope that Rice would have the opportunity to apologize to those injured in the crash. Rice’s future actions will be guided by ongoing cooperation with the Dallas Police Department and addressing the needs of the crash victims.
