The Princeton Tigers, coming off a successful run of seasons under head coach Nathan Powell with the backbone of a recently graduated large senior class, will see their program depth tested this fall, as a youthful squad that will be “much smaller” than last year’s group started preparations for the 2021 season on Monday morning at Eddie Allen Field.
While experience and size may be lacking for the Tigers, motivation to succeed and improve are not, according to Powell, who gave a broad overview of his squad after the fifth practice of the week on Friday:Â
Princeton will travel to Milan next Friday, August 20th, for a four-team jamboree that includes Grand River Conference rivals Milan and Putnam County, in addition to the Salisbury Panthers, with Princeton playing in the second scrimmage of the night against Milan, then comes right back in the third scrimmage against Putnam County. The Tigers final scrimmage against Salisbury will be the 5th (or next to last) of the night.
Notable dates for Princeton include the season opener, at recent Class 1 power Mid-Buchanan (Faucett, MO) on August 27th, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3, the home opener against the Cass-Midway Vikings on September 3rd, and a key early season swing game against the rival Trenton Bulldogs at C.F. Russell Stadium in the GRC opener on September 10th on 101.7 FM KGOZ. That will be a key game for both programs to get off to a positive start in what is expected to be a tightly-contested conference race:Â
Princeton will host Milan on KTTN FM 92.3 on September 17th, and travel to Putnam County for the KTTN Game of the Week on September 24th. October brings back-to-back home games for the Tigers, with Maysville on the 1st, and Polo on the 8th, before the regular season concludes with a trip to South Harrison on October 15th, and a Senior Night home contest with the Gallatin Bulldogs on October 22nd.
