The Maysville Lady Wolverines came from behind, rallying from a 5-1 second inning deficit to defeat the Platte Valley Eagles on Saturday afternoon in Conception Junction 9-8, advancing to the state semifinals for the second consecutive year. The win improves Maysville to 23-5 on the season, ending Platte Valley’s campaign with a mark of 17-7.
On Friday morning at 11 o’clock in Springfield, the Wolverines, hoping to advance to the state championship game for the second year in a row, will play the Salisbury Panthers. Salisbury, on Monday afternoon, swung a 7-0 shutout of St. Elizabeth in the state quarterfinals.
On the top half of the Class 1 bracket saw Stoutland down Weaubleau on Monday evening 7-1, pushing SHS into a state semifinal showdown with the 22-1 Canton Lady Tigers, a 14-1 winner at Norborne in Saturday’s quarterfinal round. Â
The Class 1 third place game will be at 3 o’clock on Friday and the title game on Saturday at noon from Springfield.
In Class 2, the Marceline Lady Tigers offense continues to surge in postseason play, as a 15 run outburst on Saturday led the Lady Tigers to a 15-8 victory over Higginsville and a spot in the Final Four. Awaiting Marceline, in a Friday duel at 1 o’clock, will be the Palmyra Panthers, 6-5 winners over Tolton Catholic in Saturday’s state quarterfinal.
East Carter, the squad Trenton defeated in last year’s Class 2 state semifinal, is back to Springfield, courtesy of a Monday afternoon shutout of Elsberry 3-0. East Carter, on Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock, will battle Sherwood, a 4-1 winner over Warsaw in the quarterfinals.
