The Putnam County Lady Midgets scored eight runs in the top of the 6th inning, turning a tight game with the rival Milan Lady Wildcats into a sudden run-rule finish, in an 18-8 final on Tuesday night at Legion Field in Milan.
Putnam County, coming off a 3-2 win over the Scotland County Tigers on Monday night, found themselves in a back-and-forth affair at Milan just 24 hours later, with the Lady Midgets jumping out in the first two innings with five straight runs to grab the advantage.
However, a hard-hitting Wildcat squad answered with a seven-run second inning outburst, snaring a 7-5 lead. Unfortunately for the Lady ‘Cats, the Midgets pitching stabilized for the rest of the game, holding Milan’s offense in check, while the Lady Midgets offense caught Milan by the third inning, and overtook a Milan squad struggling defensively for the win.
Putnam County (2-0) continues Grand River Conference play on Thursday, playing on the road against the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs. Milan (0-1), falling in its season opener, makes a lengthy road trip on Thursday to take on the Polo Lady Panthers.
