Despite a conference loss within the past week at Trenton High School, the 14-1 Putnam County Midgets remain entrenched in this week’s Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings, with the #2 spot in Class 2, one slot behind unbeaten Iberia. Portageville is ranked third, followed by Ash Grove and Mansfield.
In Class 1, the Green City Gophers tumbled five positions in the recent rankings, from #4 to #9, while Higbee leapfrogged Northeast of Cairo, jumping to #6 with the once-beaten Bearcats slipping to #7. St. Elizabeth, with an 8-4 season record, is top ranked in Class 1, followed by a dynamite 16-1 Northland Christian in the runner-up position.
The Lawson Cardinals, with a 12-3 record after a Tuesday night conference win over Lathrop, are #6 in Class 3, with a pair of Midland Empire Conference rivals in the Class 4 poll, with Savannah at #5 and St. Joseph Benton at #7.
