The Princeton Tigers traveled to Bethany for the second time in four nights on Monday, with the opponents this time around not able to give as much resistance as Friday night’s Grand River Conference games against South Harrison.
In Monday afternoon’s opener in the South Harrison Invitational Tournament, the top-seeded Lady Tigers played the South Harrison junior varsity, and jumped out to leads of 19-3 after one quarter, and 48-5 at the half, cruising to a 63-13 victory. The other girls quarterfinal contest played on Monday night in Bethany was much closer, with the Lady Bobcats of East Harrison holding off North Mercer, 48-46.
Those results will send Princeton and East Harrison into a girls semifinal on Thursday night, while dropping the South Harrison JV into a consolation affair with Mercer on Wednesday night at 7.
The Princeton boys, buoyed by Friday night’s return to the court of Calvin Berwanger, got their first victory since his comeback, rolling to a 73-41 triumph over East Harrison. The Tigers jumped on the Bobcats early, leading 23-8 after eight minutes of play. In an-all GRC quarterfinal, the host South Harrison Bulldogs took down Maysville 66-56.
Four more quarterfinals are on tap from South Harrison High School this evening (Tuesday), as #2 girls seed Northeast Nodaway battles South Harrison at 4:30, followed by the top boys seed, Northeast Nodaway, taking on the South Harrison JV at 5:45. At 7 o’clock tonight, the Lady Shamrocks of North Harrison go up against Maysville, while the #2 seed Cardinal boys from Mercer tangle with North Harrison at 8:15.
