Hanna Williams of Plattsburg High School took state titles in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes, earning 30 of 46 points for the Lady Tigers squad in the Class 2 girls state track and field meet, held Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City. New Covenant Academy racked up 57 points to win the state championship, one point greater than runner-up Jefferson (Festus). Higginsville was third with 48 points. The Marceline Lady Tigers, with 28 points, finished 8th. Other local results included East Buchanan’s 20 points, good for 13th place; Putnam County in 15th place with 17 points, while Carrollton had five points, Maysville two, and South Harrison 1.
Breauna Blanton of Maysville was 7th in the 200, with Abbey Kussman of Mraceline 6th and Madelyn Vonderfecht of Lathrop 8th in the 400. Hamilton freshman Nora Ford was 9th in the 3200.
In the 4 by 100 relay, Lathrop was 3rd, Lexington 5th, and Plattsburg 8th. The Lady Mules of Lathrop won the 4 by 200 relay, with Plattsburg second, Marceline 4th, and Putnam County 5th. Marceline won the 4 by 400 relay, with Lathrop 3rd. Higginsville was 2nd and Hamilton 7th in the 4 by 800 relay.
Putnam County High School’s Jaylee Knowles took second place in the pole vault, with Summer Beaty of South Harrison in 8th place. Josie Fortney, the Pitt State-bound senior from East Buchanan, won both the long jump and triple jump. Madison Simmons of Putnam County was 4th in the long jump, with Mackenzie Brown of Carrollton 4th place in the triple jump. Alex Van Velzer of Lathrop had a 4th place discus finish. In the javelin, Baylee Johnson of Marceline was 3rd, with Kelsie Lewis of Plattsburg and Sydney Stephens of Plattsburg in 5th and 6th place. Marceline’s Jaylea Bixenman was 5th in the Class 2 girls high jump competition.
