Platte Valley completes unbeaten season, brings state title back to Nodaway County

Platte Valley’s girls passed one of the strongest tests they have seen all season long, downing Leeton High School 56-44 at JQH Arena in Springfield, winning the Class 1 state title for the Jefferson-South Nodaway cooperative.  The third place game was captured by Walnut Grove over South Iron 56-44.

The Class 1 boys title went to South Iron, 69-50 over the Mound City Panthers, with the boys third place hardware going to St. Elizabeth, defeating Higbee 57-44.

The Class 3 girls title goes to Lift for Life Academy, a 56-52 winner over Skyline, knocking off a Lady Tiger squad that had gone through Milan a week earlier, 70-64 in the state quarterfinal round.  Steelville edged Tipton 45-44 for girls third place in Class 3.

Hartville’s boys backed up their Class 2 state title from 2020 with a Class 3 crown, coming in unbeaten fashion, in 2021, downing Monroe City 43-35.  Third place in Class 3 boys went to Summit Christian Academy, a 56-44 winner over Lift for Life Academy.

In Friday’s Class 2 state championship games, the Ellington girls beat Wellington-Napoleon 63-36 and the Campbell boys downed Salisbury 67-50.  Third place went to the Norwood boys (56-43 over North Andrew) and the Blue Eye girls, 59-52 over Scotland County.

The state semifinals are set for this upcoming weekend for Classes 4, 5, and 6.  Here are the matchups:

Westminster Christian Academy vs. Barstow

Class 4 Girls: 

Vashon vs. Mount Vernon

Boonville vs. St. Joseph Benton

Class 5 Boys: 

Lutheran South vs. Bolivar

Cardinal Ritter vs. Van Horn

Class 5 Girls: 

Union vs. West Plains

Whitfield vs. William Chrisman

Class 6 Boys: 

Chaminade College Prep vs. Springfield Kickapoo

Fort Zumwalt North vs. Liberty 

Class 6 Girls: 

Webster Groves vs. Springfield Kickapoo

Incarnate Word Academy vs. Staley
