The Penney Lady Hornets rebounded from a go-ahead single off the bat of Madi Moore in the Trenton 7th inning, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th, defeating THS 4-3 for the first victory of the season for Hamilton, in a softball battle broadcast Monday night on Hot Country Z 101.7.
Trenton, with momentum coming off of Saturday’s championship at the Maysville Tournament, jumped in front with a pair of runs in the top of the 4th inning, with a Chandler Lynch lead-off triple followed by a successful squeeze bunt by Mirena King. Teya Cooksey, with two outs, reached second base on a fielding error, and scored on a looping single by Morgan King.
Penney’s bats came alive late against Trenton starting pitcher Emma Roberts, with the Hornets cutting the lead to 2-1 in the 5th inning as Izzy Baker stole third base and scored on a throwing error. In the 6th inning, Hamilton tied the score at 2-2, with a two-out single by Hannah Nixdorf scoring Rayne Gray.
Trailing 3-2 in the 7th, Penney got a lead-off walk by Jade Gray, who stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Aniston Houghton scored Gray, with the throw going home, instead of first, allowing Houghton to reach base with the potential game-winning run. Rayne Gray was hit by a pitch, moving Houghton to second. Penney winning pitcher Amelia Pingleton rapped a hard single up the middle to end the game.Â
The loss drops Trenton’s record to 5-9, with Penney moving to 1-4.
