The #1 seeded Penney High School (Hamilton) Hornets had their quarterfinal game against Maysville in cruise control early on Friday night, scoring on their first play from scrimmage, and having running clock in the final two quarters, winning 43-0 at Alumni Field in action heard on KGOZ FM 101.7.Â
The Hornets first play on offense came from the Maysville 37 yard line just over two minutes into the opening quarter. Tom Johnson had the play-by-play call:Â
Titus McBee added a 27 yard scoring run less than two minutes later, with a “Pick 6” with 7:02 remaining in the opening quarter sending the lead to 20-0:Â
Isac Bales-Rodriguez had a pair of touchdown runs, one was a 15 yard burst late in the first quarter, and the other was a 70 yard run midway through the second quarter. Antony Gault had a 14 yard run with 51 seconds remaining in the half for the final touchdown of the night.
Penney was four of six on PAT’s, with Tyler Thompson scoring a pair of two-point runs. A successful two-point pass was mixed in with a failed two-point pass attempt, while the Hornets kicker was 1 for 2 on one-point attempts.Â
The win sends Penney (6-4) into the Class 1, District 4 semifinals this Friday night (November 15th) to play KCI Conference rival West Platte at Alumni Field in Hamilton. Kickoff will be at 7 o’clock, with pregame at 6:30 on KGOZ FM 101.7. West Platte advanced with an impressive 49-19 victory over Polo.Â
In other Class 1, District 4 action from Friday night, the #2 seeded Milan Wildcats, in action from Cal Hubbard Field on KTTN, were upset by #7 seeded North Platte 26-6, marking the second consecutive season Milan had its season end with a loss to the Panthers. North Platte, with the victory, will move into the semifinal round and a Friday night trip to Unionville to play the Putnam County Midgets, as PC, in the quarterfinal round, beat Scotland County 14-7.Â
