Penn State University freshman quarterback Michael Johnson Jr. has chosen to leave State College, entering the transfer portal after just one season with the Nittany Lions.

Coming out of Sheldon High School in Eugene, Oregon, Johnson was rated a four-star dual-threat quarterback by 247Sports, and the #15 dual-threat quarterback in the entire 2019 class, picking up scholarship offers from many of the elite programs in America, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and LSU.

There is a connection between first-year Missouri coach Eliah Drinkwitz and Johnson, as Drinkwitz, then on the staff of North Carolina State, was the primary Wolf Pack recruiter for Johnson.

If does not receive an NCAA waiver to play in 2020, Johnson will have three seasons of eligibility if he lands at an FBS program.  He would be a redshirt sophomore in 2021 in that scenario.
