The Panthers of Grundy County High School played competitively, but came up short in a softball/baseball doubleheader on Friday night in Brashear. In the softball contest, Brashear dropped the Lady Panthers to 10-9 on the season with a 6-4 victory. Zoe Littleton took the hard-luck loss for Grundy R-5, with Head Coach Tiffany Carver noting that “silly errors” cost her team the game. Brashear broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Brashear won a high-scoring baseball game with Grundy County, 16-10. Wayne Baxter pitched the first three innings for Grundy, giving up 11 hits and 11 runs (7 earned). Ryan Metcalf pitched 1 1/3 innings and struggled to find the strike zone, giving up six walks. Andrew Garcia pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for the Panthers.
Offensively, Garcia, Timothy Metcalf, and Caden Gann had homers for the Panthers, while Metcalf was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
The Grundy R-5 softball and baseball teams will host the Meadville Eagles tonight (Monday night). It will be the final game of the fall season for the Panther baseball team. Grundy R-5 softball will be in district competition later this week at Green City.
