The ownership of Utah’s National Hockey League franchise have narrowed choices for the team’s nickname to the fans, with surveys sent out on Wednesday from the Smith Entertainment Group.  The ownership group, led by Ryan Smith, has confirmed that the team will be identified by the state moniker of “Utah”, matching the NBA’s Utah Jazz.  For the 2024-2025 season, the team will go without a nickname, being identified by only Utah HC.  A new nickname will debut for 2025-2026 with assistance from the branding company Doubleday & Cartwright.

The 20 options the fanbase will choose from are:

Frost

Ice

Powder

Mountaineers

Freeze

Mammoth

Black Diamonds

Blast

Caribou

Blizzard

Swarm

Hive

Outlaws

Yeti

Squall

Fury

Glaciers

Canyons

Venom

HC (Hockey Club)

With Utah’s nickname of the “Beehive State”, bee related nicknames could be favored, with the AAA franchise called the “Bees”.

Smith Entertainment Group purchased the Arizona Coyotes last month for $1.2 billion with plans to move the franchise to the Delta Center in downtown Salt Lake City.
