For the first time in the history of the university, Mississippi will play one of the HBCU institutions in the Magnolia State, with the Rebels set to host Alcorn State on September 9, 2028.
Ole Miss Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Keith Carter stated, “This is a matchup we’ve been working on for quite some time, and I want to thank Alcorn State A.D. Derek Horne, a good friend and great Rebel, for helping make this happen!”.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic has canceled also football contest involving HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) for 2020, as the Southern vs. Florida A&M game was chopped, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. The contest was scheduled for September 12th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Â
Earlier last week, on Wednesday, June 17th, it was announced that the “Southern Heritage” matchup between Jackson State and Tennessee State had been canceled.
