Northwest Missouri State University will not renew head coach Rich Wright’s contract, effective Dec. 31, following the Bearcats’ 23-7 loss to Pittsburg State on Saturday.
Wright completed his eighth season with a 6-5 overall record and 6-4 MIAA record. His 21-year tenure included eight NCAA Division II national championship appearances and four titles (2009, 2013, 2015, 2016).
Wright’s Legacy
Wright is the winningest active MIAA coach (.747) and ranks ninth among NCAA Division II coaches with five-plus years of experience.
Search for New Coach
Director of Athletics Dr. Andy Peterson announced a national search for Wright’s replacement.
Interim Leadership
Co-Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach Chad Bostwick will serve as interim head coach. The university will be seeking Wright’s successor after his successful 21-year stint.
