The Arizona Coyotes are actively exploring options for a new arena and entertainment district in the Phoenix market after a proposed arena and mixed-use development project in Tempe was defeated in a local referendum. The Coyotes have signed a letter of intent to purchase a plot of land in Mesa, a city in the Phoenix area, as a potential site for their new facility.
The proposed project in Mesa aims to replicate the core elements of the previously proposed Tempe project, including a 16,000-seat arena, hotels, shops, restaurants, and housing. The Coyotes and team owner Alex Meruelo are committed to privately funding the new sports facility, making it the first of its kind in Arizona.
While the Mesa site is a leading option, the Coyotes are also exploring other potential development sites in the East Valley of the Phoenix area. The team is determined to find a new permanent home that would allow them to remain in the region.
The Coyotes’ current situation is complicated by ongoing issues with their local TV coverage. Disruptions with Bally Sports Arizona and its parent company’s bankruptcy have added to the challenges the team is facing.
Despite these challenges, the Coyotes are dedicated to securing a new arena and solidifying their presence in the Phoenix market, providing a modern and suitable facility for their fans and players.
